Sam McDonagh
Sam advises a range of online and offline businesses in Australia, Southeast Asia and the US via the privately held Deeperwater Ventures.
He established Deeperwater Ventures in 2008 after almost 10 years with eBay (NASDAQ – EBAY) in various roles, including Finance Director – eBay Australia; Director – US Finance, eBay North America; Director – Category Management (Health & Beauty, Real Estate and New Ventures), eBay North America; and his final role as Director – eBay Marketplaces, Southeast Asia. It is this time and access to “simply great people doing great things” that he credits as his greatest influence.
He co-founded quickflix.com.au (ASX – QFX) in 2004, now Australia’s leading online DVD rental and streaming service.
Prior to eBay.com, Sam gained an affinity for red “tick marks” and work papers at Grant Thornton, Corporate Advisors in Australia and New York.
Since returning to Australia in 2008, Sam has held various executive roles, including – Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at iiNet (ASX – IIN) and in separate terms, Executive General Manager for ThinkSmart’s (ASX – TSM) Australian operations and Group Head of Product and Marketing.
Sam is a Chartered Accountant (CA), holds a BComm from the University of Western Australia and has completed the Building New Ventures Program at Harvard Business School.
